The Core Elements of EAOP
EAOP focuses on the following five core elements to support students with meeting their educational goals:
Academic Advising
Regional Outreach Coordinators (ROCs) provide academic advising on a timely manner and counseling services to EAOP participants. By monitoring the student’s academic progress, EAOP consistently advises students on the course sequence necessary to meet admission eligibility for post secondary institutions. Academic advising sessions are designed to guide students on how to become competitively eligible for admission to the campus of their choice.
Academic Enrichment
Integrated throughout EAOP activities and workshops, this standard is designed to enhance the student’s skills and confidence in specified subject matter. Activities and workshops aim to improve student’s access to higher level academic preparation and enhance critical thinking skills. In all, the structure of academic enrichment will increase the student’s capacity to become competitively eligible for admission to higher education institutions.
Entrance Exams
The entrance examination preparation standard is designed to prepare students’ test-taking skills. The activities are designed for 8th through 12th grade participants. Students learn testtaking strategies, how to assess their strengths and weaknesses in academic disciplines, and the importance of exams during the admissions process. The structured layout orients students to the American College Test (ACT) and the Scholastic Assessment Tests (SAT Reasoning and SAT Subject).
Family Programs
With the understanding that families are the foundation for student success, EAOP has a parental educational component. The time a parent or guardian spends with their child has a positive effect on their child’s education. By working with families, EAOP provides practical and educational information that continues to support the student’s educational goal. Activities range from evening workshops, short courses, and weekend campus programs.
College Knowledge
An understanding of admissions is crucial to a student’s successful preparation. College and university information includes an understanding of the Scholarship Requirement and the Subject Requirement necessary for prospective freshman applicants. Students interested in transferring from the CCC are informed about all necessary requirements. Information about housing, financial aid, application deadlines, and how to write an effective personal statement are provided through informational seminars to students, families, and counselors.
