Services and Eligibility

History

EAOP was established in 1976 by the University of California in response to the State Legislature's recommendation to expand postsecondary opportunities to all of California’s students including those who are first-generation, socioeconomically disadvantaged and English-language learners. EAOP assists middle school and high school students with academic preparation, admission, enrollment and financial aid requirements. EAOP is UC’s largest academic preparation program and can be found on all ten of the University of California campuses.

EAOP makes a difference. EAOP students are more prepared for college than non EAOP students. Three fourths of EAOP students complete UC's a-g requirements by the end of the 12th grade, compared to one third of students statewide.

EAOP at UC Davis serves nearly 3,000 students in twelve school districts. In addition, EAOP supports local educational partnerships and provides services to over 4,800 students in our local communities.

Standards

EAOP focuses on four core strategies to support students with meeting their educational goals. The purpose of these strategies is to assist students achieving postsecondary access and success, and UC eligibility for more students.

Academic Advising
EAOP specializes in individual and group academic advising that helps students stay motivated and on-track to complete the 'a-g' college-preparatory courses unique to each high school and required for University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) admission.

Academic Enrichment
Through academic enrichment, EAOP students participate in supplemental learning opportunities that advance their mastery of academic subjects and engage them in the intellectual life of higher education.
Through UC Davis EAOP, students can participate in*:
  • University Research Opportunities
  • Summer Institutes
  • Writing Academies
  • Math Academies
* opportunities can vary by grade level.

College Entrance Exams
College entrance exams are an important component to the university application process. Eligibility for selective colleges and universities like the University of California requires the completion of college entrance exams (ACT or SAT Reasoning test and SAT Subject exams). EAOP provides test preparation workshops and test practice sessions to prepare students for taking and succeeding on the required college entrance exams.
College Knowledge
College Knowledge activities provide accurate and timely information for students, their families and educators about the value of a college education, and the steps needed to prepare. EAOP provides workshops and campus tour opportunities to help students and their families navigate the college preparation, application and enrollment process. Workshops include an overview of California’s postsecondary education options, how to fill out college applications and how to apply for financial aid and scholarships.
