Description
The Early Academic Outreach Program was implemented in 1976 by the University in response to the State Legislature's recommendation to increase the number of students who are competitively eligible for postsecondary education. Outreach coordinators assist K-14 students with academic preparation, enrollment, admission, and financial aid requirements. The program works in collaboration with campus and area personnel to provide academic services and support to students, families, schools, and communities. EAOP at UC Davis serves over 3,000 students in thirteen school districts.
Program Eligibility
Scholastic aptitude and motivation are the precursors for selection into the program. Students are encouraged to apply as early as 8th grade. Applicants must meet one of the selection criteria.
Program Standards
Services are categorized into four standards. The developmental approach for each criterion is geared towards the student's preparation for admission to the University of California.
Family Programs
Activities provide opportunities for family members to get involved in sustaining the motivation for students to pursue higher education. The family continues to instill that college is an option after high school graduation.
Student-Centered Outreach
EAOP has designed grade-appropriate curriculum for program participants from elementary to high school. These modules cover a gamut of areas that focus on the student's successful preparation for Univeristy eligibility.
Test Preparation Programs
Students are required to complete examinations that assess their are used to refer students to supplemental academic enrichment activities.
